📌 About This Scheme
The Gopinath Munde Shetkari Apghat Vima Yojana (Farmer Accident Insurance Scheme) is a social security initiative by the Maharashtra government to protect the families of farmers who lose their lives or suffer permanent disability due to accidents. Farming is a high-risk occupation involving heavy machinery, pesticides, and the danger of natural hazards like lightning or snake bites. This scheme provides an insurance cover of ₹2 lakh in the case of accidental death. In case of permanent disability (loss of two limbs or two eyes), the cover is ₹2 lakh, and for partial permanent disability (loss of one limb or one eye), the cover is ₹1 lakh. A unique feature of this scheme is that the state government pays the entire premium on behalf of the farmers; there is no cost to the farmer for this coverage. All farmers whose names are registered in the land records (7/12 utara) in the age group of 10 to 75 years are automatically covered. The scheme covers a wide range of accidents, including road accidents, electric shock, drowning, fall from trees, and animal attacks. By providing this financial cushion, the government ensures that a sudden tragedy does not lead to the total economic collapse of a farming household. It provides a sense of security to the farmers who work in challenging conditions. The scheme is named after the late Gopinath Munde, a leader who championed the cause of farmers. This initiative is a testament to the state's commitment to standing by its food producers during their most difficult times, ensuring that their families are not left destitute after an unfortunate incident.
