Bihar Parvarish Yojana is a flagship social welfare scheme launched by the Social Welfare Department of the Bihar Government. The primary objective of this scheme is to provide financial assistance and social security to orphans, children with disabilities, and children living with chronic illnesses like HIV/AIDS or Leprosy. It specifically targets families belonging to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category or those whose annual income is less than ₹60,000. Under this scheme, the government provides a monthly grant (currently ₹1,000 per month) to the guardian or the mother/father of the child to ensure their proper upbringing, nutrition, and education within the family environment, rather than sending them to institutional care or orphanages. The scheme is based on the philosophy of 'non-institutional care,' recognizing that a child develops best within a family and community setting. This financial aid helps the family cover the costs of special medicines, nutritious food, and schooling for the vulnerable child. It prevents the abandonment of children with disabilities and ensures that orphans are taken in by extended family members without the fear of financial burden. The scheme covers children from birth until they reach the age of 18. By providing this consistent support, the Bihar government aims to reduce child mortality, improve the health outcomes for disabled children, and ensure that every vulnerable child in the state has a chance at a dignified life.
