📌 About This Scheme

The Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayee Arogya Yojana (RGJAY) was the precursor to the current Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana and has now been fully integrated into the newer system to provide a more robust healthcare framework. The scheme was specifically designed to provide free medical treatment and surgeries for catastrophic illnesses that require hospitalization and specialized care. It targets families with an annual income of less than ₹1 lakh. The scheme covers a vast range of treatments including oncology, cardiology, poly-trauma, and renal diseases. One of its key strengths is the partnership with private tertiary care hospitals, ensuring that high-quality medical infrastructure is available to the poor. The scheme covers all expenses related to the surgery, including bed charges, nursing, medicines, and even a follow-up consultation. It is a completely paperless system at the point of care. The government provides a sum insured of ₹1.5 lakh on a floater basis per family per year. This insurance-based model has significantly reduced the out-of-pocket expenditure for health in Maharashtra. By focusing on life-threatening conditions, the scheme ensures that no citizen dies due to a lack of funds for a critical operation. The integration with PM-JAY has further strengthened the scheme by expanding the list of covered procedures and increasing the network of hospitals. The program also emphasizes quality control, with a dedicated team of medical experts monitoring the outcomes of the surgeries performed under the scheme to ensure that patients receive the best possible care.
